7th Annual Wheatley School Alumni Association NYC Lunch

Monday, January 28, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM

Colbeh Restaurant, 32 West 39th Street, in Manhattan, 212-354-8181.

Dear Wheatley Wildcats,

The 7th Annual Wheatley School Alumni Association NYC Lunch will take place on Monday, January 28, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, at Colbeh Restaurant, 32 West 39th Street, in Manhattan, 212-354-8181. The location, in the heart of midtown, is ideal: approximately equidistant from Grand Central and Penn Stations; a fifteen-or-less minute walk from them and various subway and bus stations. Colbeh serves Kosher Mediterranean and Persian food (rather different from our previous cuisines). You can check it out at https://www.colbeh.com/locations/manhattan/.

The price is $60 per person (payable at the event, check or cash) . . . and please don’t complain about that. I have bargained with the manager until I’m blue in the face, and a non-Wheatley friend of mine, who knows the owner, is currently interceding on our behalf. The final cost to us will doubtless be somewhat more than that, but I (and, I hope, some well-heeled among you) will make up the difference. Remember, we do this only once a year.

On the plus side, besides the location, what Colbeh calls “The Party Room” is comfortable and quiet, a perfect place to meet, greet, eat, relax, and hang out for up to two hours. Besides the table area, there’s an adjoining lounge with comfortable couches and our own little bar. This will be the nicest setting we’ve had yet. We’ll even have our own spacious, well-appointed rest room on the floor!

The menu is pasted below (but will probably be cut back slightly as the bargaining continues). One former Wheatley teacher wrote me, “Colbeh is amazing Persian food! I love the one in Great Neck.” I had Colbeh’s appetizers once and could hardly stop eating. Although the “main course” is meat, vegetarians will, for sure, have plenty to eat.

I sincerely apologize for the fact that our second-floor location is not very accessible. There is one staircase, fourteen steps, no twists or turns. We’ll carry you up!

If you haven’t already, please RSVP ASAP, be it “yea or nay.” If you don’t remember, just do it.
