Hey Everyone, The
Wheatley School Alumni Association Website has all sorts of goodies.
The Wheatley School Alumni Association Website
One of those goodies is a
listing of all Wildcats who married Wildcats.
The Wheatley School - Wheatley-Wheatley Marriages
Below is the story of the
beginning of the romance between
John Corwin (1964) and Laurie Woods (1965).
Other
couples’ stories could be equally entertaining, so tell us how it all began
(and continued).
Lisa Lebowitz Kiss (1978) Writes
- “OMG Mrs Brescia is 106 ?!?! She was my first grade
teacher, and I loved her sooo much. I would ride my bike past her house
(didn’t know the word back then, but definitely stalking her!) all from Love
and curiosity about who she might have been outside the classroom… how
wonderful that she has had such a long life! For all the gifts she gave to
her many appreciative students! Happy Happy Birthday !!!”
1958 - Steve Nelson - Author and
Lecturer
I have been invited to
give a talk about my book
Fire in a Wire,
how electricity is
giving rise to a new species of human.
It will be at Berkshire Community
College on March 24 at 4:00 p.m. and available online via Zoom.
Conventional wisdom says
that after millions of years of evolution,
Homo sapiens
is the sole surviving
species of human. I disagree. A new species is emerging:
Homo
electric
. Just as fire enabled the evolution of prehistoric
humans, electricity is enabling the evolution of humans today. Electricity is
the new fire. Fire in a wire.
When the Electric Age
dawned with the telegraph in the mid-19
th
century, for
the first time ever humans could interact remotely in real time, no longer
needing to be face-to-face. While human evolution was characterized by the
increasing size and complexity of our brains, we are the first humans able to
store, access, and process information outside the brain. We cannot survive
without electricity.
I hope you can join me.

1964 - John Corwin - Dinner in “The
Village”
L-R - John
Corwin (1964) and Art Engoron (1967) at the White Oak Tavern on Waverly Place
in Greenwich Village, New York City, March 12, 2026.
1964 and 1965 - John Corwin and
Laurie Woods - In the Beginning
John Writes - “
I met
Laurie Woods (Class of 1965)
working on the Wildcat newspaper.
On December 27, 1963, I
asked her out on a date to attend a New Year’s Eve party at the home of my
classmate
Billy Weber
, and she accepted. We were there from 8:00
pm to 1:30 am, and we spent the entire 5 1/2 hours discussing the
assassination of President Kennedy, which had occurred 5 1/2 weeks before. We
both had studied the extensive evidence questioning the official story of
Oswald acting as a lone assassin. From time to time, other partygoers dropped
into our conversation for a few minutes.
For our second date, I
asked Laurie to a square dance to be held at the school on Saturday, February
15, and again she accepted, and so we went. The next morning, she went with
her family to Washington D.C. for a winter break vacation. During that time, we
missed each other, and we communicated by letters, phone calls, and a
telegram.
She returned Friday,
February 21, and came over to my house that day. I had planned a surprise for
her by purchasing the Beatles’ newly released first album, Meet the Beatles.
When she showed up at the door, she had in her hands the same item.
The rest is history. We
stayed in touch throughout our college years (geographically separated), and
were married June 1, 1968, at the East Hills Courthouse by Judge John Donne.
He was performing his first marriage ceremony.”
1965 - Anthony “Tony” Napoli and
Ward Seibert - Small World Connection
L-R - Tony Napoli and Ward
Seibert (both 1965)
Tony Writes
- “My daughter and granddaughter (Vanessa) live in the
North Carolina. Triangle Area. At our last Wheatley Class of 1965 reunion, I
found our that Ward Seibert and his wife, Candace, also live there. So, on my
recent visit from San Diego, to see family, my wife and I took time to travel
to Cary, NC, to visit the Seiberts. Vanessa is actively pursuing employment,
and Ward and Candace were kind enough to recommend her to some of their
connections. Also, we had a great lunch, reminiscing about our high school
days.”
L-R - Candace and Vanessa
1965 - Robert Halper - Get-Together
at the St. Regis Hotel

and Bob Halper (1965)

Maxfield Parrish’s Old King Cole Mural in the St. Regis Hotel, 55th Street
and 5th Avenue, New York City, on March 13, 2026.
1966 - Katherine McClellan
Wisniewski - “
I attended Dental
Hygiene School in Farmingdale with
Dale Prince (1967)
. We carpooled,
and we were study buddies.
I was Honor Graduate of
my Class at Farmingdale. In June 1970, I married my prom date and became an
officer’s wife. We lived in Monterey, California, where my husband studied
Czech and I was a hygienist at Fort Ord. From 1971-1974, we were stationed in
Bavaria with the 511th Military Intelligence Company. We never stayed on
base; instead, we bought a pop-up trailer and pulled it around Europe with
our son.
Mom and dad came to
visit. After Germany, my husband was Special Agent in charge of Fort Dix when
a state trooper was shot. Mike resigned his commission after nine wonderful
years of military life and worked for Pfizer. We currently live in
Morristown, NJ. We have five grandchildren.”
1967 - Benjamin Ross Remembers - “
In 2nd or 3rd grade,
Robert Rico (1967)
came to Miss O’Connor’s class on St Patrick’s Day in a bright orange shirt.
He was told to go home and change. Ben also remembers that in fifth grade,
someone found Mrs. Brescia’s name carved into one of the old wooden desks,
from when she had been in grade school at North Side.”

1972 (Jeffrey Kargman) -
“Art, I so look forward to every issue of The Wheatley
School Alumni Newsletter every 2-3 weeks. It’s so great to hear about school
mates at Wheatley. I don’t know of any other friends who have a newsletter of
such quality and frequency. I’m so happy when another one arrives. Art, thank
you so much for all that you do for us. Regards, Jeffrey Kargman MD”
1976 (Larry Copeland) -
“Thanks for all you do.”
1976 (Ted Lipsky) - “
I have enjoyed receiving and reading the last few
Newsletters, even though some of the writers may not share my viewpoints.
However, I think having respectful discourse and discussions in today’s
America is desperately needed, and I am glad that you continue publishing
diverging viewpoints. Thanks.

The Wheatley School Alumni Association Website
Also thanks to Keith is

I edit all submissions,
even material in quotes, for clarity and concision, without any indication
thereof. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of what people tell me, as TWSAA

We welcome any and all
